Day 1: Arrival – Sightseeing of Addis Ababa
As soon as you set foot at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, welcome and transfer to your reserved hotel followed by Addis Ababa city tour. Visit National museum, have an insight into the past and present history, culture, economy and art of the nation. Among other things you will visit the oldest hominid known as Lucy “Dinknesh ” dated back to 3.2 million years.
Visit Holy Trinity Cathedral built by Emperor Haile Silassie II. It is one of architecturally decorated, spacious, splendid stained-glass windows and well-designed churches in Ethiopia. Visit is Merkato, the largest open-air market in Africa. Visit mount Entoto the highest peak of the city at an altitude of 3200 meters above sea level, offering panoramic view of Addis Ababa city. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 2: Addis Ababa – Awash National Park
In the morning drive to Awash national park. On the way visit Mile Serdo wildlife reserve and Yangudi Rassa national park, visit some of the wildlife such as Antelopes, Ostrich, wild Donkey and a variety of bird species. Late in the afternoon, have a short game drive in the Awash national park. Overnight in Awash national park.
Day 3: Awash National Park – Harar
In the morning, drive to Harar through several towns and villages. Explore the countryside of Eastern Ethiopia. On the way visit the biggest Khat market in the town of Aweday. Khat is a flowering plant native to eastern and southern Africa. Khat contains the alkaloid cathinone, a stimulant which causes greater sociability, excitement, loss of appetite, and mild euphoria. Overnight in Harar.
Day 4: Harar
Visit the historic and walled city of Harar, founded in the 7th century AD. Harar is the fourth holiest city for the Muslim people next to Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. Its architecture reflects a strong Islamic influence. Visit the Harari market, the house of the French poet (Rimbaud house), the Harari museum, Harari traditional house and the tomb of Emir Nur who built the Harar walls known as Jugol. In the evening visit Hyena man. The man feeds Hyenas just outside of the city walls from a stick held between his teeth or with his bare hands. Overnight in Harar.
Day 5: Harar – Dire Dawa – Addis Ababa
In the morning drive to Babile to visit Babile rock formations, which consist of tall rocks that have been sculpted into strange, often phallic shapes by the elements. Visit the nearby biggest camel market in Ethiopia if today is Monday or Thursday. In the afternoon drive to Dire Dawa and fly to back to Addis Ababa. In the evening attend a folkloric farewell dinner. Experience the rich cultural heritage of Ethiopia with a traditional dance performance live from stage. Transfer to airport for your departure.
