This Four-days Awash National Park and Harar Tour is a fantastic itinerary that combines wildlife, nature, and cultural experiences in Ethiopia.
Itinerary
In the morning depart from Addis Ababa and drive to Awash National Park (approx. 3-4 hours). In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in the park, where you can spot wildlife such as oryx, kudu, warthogs, baboons, and various bird species.
In the evening, relax at your lodge and enjoy the scenic views of the Awash River and surrounding landscapes. Overnight at Doho Lodge located in the park.
Take an early morning game drive to explore more of the park. Visit the Awash River Gorge and the stunning Awash Falls.
Late morning, depart for Harar (approx. 6-7 hours’ drive). Enjoy the changing landscapes as you travel through the Ethiopian highlands. In the evening, explore Harar nightlife. Harar is known for its vibrant culture and Islamic heritage. Overnight at Royal Sunshine hotel or at the hotel of your choice.
From early morning, begin exploring the walled city of Harar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Islam's holiest cities.
In the morning, visit the iconic Jugol Wall, walk along the ancient walls surrounding the old city, which date back to the 16th century. Visit the five historic gates that lead into the city. In the afternoon, discover the former home of the famous French poet Arthur Rimbaud, Harari cultural museum, Sherif Harar city museum and the colorful Harari market.
In the evening, witness the unforgettable tradition of hyena feeding, where locals feed wild hyenas by hand. Overnight at Royal Sunshine hotel or at the hotel of your choice.
After a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, drive 1:30 hours to Dire Dawa. On the way visit Aweday Khat market, the biggest Khat market in Ethiopia. In the afternoon, explore Dire Dawa, Ethiopia's second-largest city, known for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and historical significance. Visit Kefira Market, Railway Station and Kezira. Late afternoon, transfer to Dire Dawa airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. End of the tour.

This park is located between Oromia and Afar regions, 215 km from the country’s capital, Addis Ababa. To the south, meanders the Awash River, which originates in the Ethiopian highlands. This is punctuated by spectacular waterfalls, visible in the park.

Awash national park is home to more than 81 species of mammals and 43 species of reptiles. Beisa oryxes are common here for their populations.
Known for its famous array of markets, the famous Hyena Men, ancient paintings and artefacts spanning all cultures, it’s easy to get lost in the never-ending maze of the winding streets of Harar.
